The summer holidays can feel like a marathon. For many families of children with additional needs, those six long weeks are filled with change, disruption to routines and plenty of ups and downs. While there may have been moments of joy, fun, and memory-making, it can also be exhausting. If you’re feeling a little worn out and bracing yourself for the return to school, you are definitely not alone.

The transition back to school is a big shift. New routines, early mornings, uniform battles, and the unknowns of a new classroom or teacher can feel overwhelming for both children and parents. That’s why I’ve created free back-to-school visuals, designed especially with SEN children in mind.

Why visuals help

Visuals provide children with a clear, simple way to understand what’s happening next. For children who struggle with anxiety, transitions, or processing lots of information, having visual supports can:

• Reduce uncertainty and meltdowns

• Provide comfort and predictability

• Encourage independence and confidence

• Help them feel calmer about what’s coming next

What’s included in the free download

Wev've put together a set of colourful, easy-to-use visuals that you can print and use at home or school. Inside you’ll find:

• Morning routine cards (getting dressed, brushing teeth, breakfast, shoes on, etc.)

• School day visuals (school bag, travelling to school, classroom, playtime, home time)

• Feelings cards to help your child communicate how they’re feeling

You can stick them onto a visual timetable, use them as flashcards, or pop them into a keyring for on-the-go reassurance.
